wakey lets friends record voices that become your alarm. That means we handle voice recordings, so here is exactly what happens to them. wakey is run by Nines Robotics. Questions or requests: .
What we store
- Your account: the name you type, a generated @username, your wakey’s design, and your time zone.
- Your birthday, if you add it: month and day only, no year. Your friends can see it.
- Your alarms: times, days and labels.
- Voices: clips people record for you, and clips you record for others, plus the sender’s name. Morning reactions and AI song prompts too.
- Your social graph: friends, friend requests, groups and blocks.
- When you were last up: the time you last opened the app, so your friends’ wakeys can show you awake or asleep.
- A push token: so your phone can be told a voice has arrived.
- Your plan: whether you have premium, and an Apple transaction identifier. We never see your payment details.
If you record through an invite link without the app, we store the name you type and your clip. We don’t create an account for you.
Your wakey’s face
When a voice is recorded or played in the app, your wakey guesses the feeling in it and changes its eyes. That’s emotion recognition, so we’re telling you plainly: it runs entirely on your phone, the result is used only for that face, and nothing about it is saved or sent to anyone. It doesn’t happen on the web recorder.
What we don’t do
No ads, no ad tracking, no analytics SDKs, and we don’t sell data. This website uses no cookies and no third-party fonts or scripts. Your browser keeps your name and listen links on your own device, so you don’t have to retype them.
Who sees what
A clip is sealed: the app won’t play it or say who sent it until the alarm rings. The audio has to be on their phone by then, so it is downloaded before the ring, up to 36 hours early. The sender’s name stays on our server until the ring. Afterwards they can keep the clip and replay it. Your name, @username, wakey, birthday, awake status and alarm time are visible to your friends. People you share an invite link with can see your name, @username, time zone and next alarm time. When you’re invited to a group, you only see who’s in it; the group sees you once you say yes.
Who processes it for us
- Supabase stores the database and audio, in the EU (Frankfurt).
- Apple delivers notifications and handles payments.
- Vercel hosts this website.
- ElevenLabs receives your prompt if you make an AI song, and nothing else.
Why we may process it
Under the GDPR, we rely on our contract with you to run the app, and on our legitimate interest in keeping it safe, such as handling reports. Your birthday is optional and rests on your consent; removing it withdraws that consent.
How long we keep it
Voices and account data stay until you delete them or your account. Deleting your account in Settings removes your account and the clips stored for you immediately. Backup copies, held by us in the UK, can keep them for up to 30 more days before they are deleted. Clips you sent that a friend already kept stay with that friend, with your name removed. Reports, including the reported clip, are kept until reviewed and for up to 90 days after, to deal with repeat abuse.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it, by contacting us. In the UK you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). In the EU you can complain to your own country’s data protection authority.
Age
wakey is for people aged 16 and older.
